Cryptowatch alternatives after Kraken shut it down

Cryptowatch, Kraken's multi-exchange charting and trading terminal, is gone. On July 31, 2023 Kraken announced it was retiring the web, desktop and mobile apps, along with Cryptowatch Social and the Cryptowatch API. This page maps each thing Cryptowatch did to where you can do it now. One note first: CryptoWatchTools, the site you are on, is independent. It has no connection to Kraken or to Cryptowatch.

What replaced each part of Cryptowatch

What you used it forWhere to do it now
Charts across many exchangesTradingView charts most exchanges' markets under their own symbols. The free CryptoWatchTools watchlist exporter builds a ready-to-import list of every pair on BloFin, Binance, Bybit, KuCoin, MEXC or Kraken, no account needed.
Trading on Kraken from the chartKraken Pro, whose Terminal preset recreates the classic Cryptowatch layout, or Kraken Desktop, Kraken's own app for Windows, Mac and Linux, launched in October 2024 and built on Cryptowatch's ideas.
Price alertsTradingView alerts, or your exchange's app. If your group lives in Discord, the CryptoWatchTools bot posts big movers and funding squeezes into a channel.
WatchlistsTradingView watchlists, filled from the exporter's list instead of typed in one pair at a time.
A market overviewThe CryptoWatchTools movers scanner: price and volume change over ten timeframes with RSI beside each coin, and the funding scanner for perpetuals. Both need a free account.
The market data APIThe exchanges' own public APIs. Prices, tickers and candles are free on all the large ones.

Picking a replacement

Start from what you did most. If you traded on Kraken, Kraken Pro and Kraken Desktop are the direct successors, and both run on your Kraken account. If you watched prices across several exchanges and traded somewhere else, TradingView is the closest fit for the charts, and the hard part is getting every pair into a watchlist, which the exporter does in one download. If you pulled Cryptowatch data into your own scripts, go to the exchanges' APIs directly and use their all-markets ticker endpoints, one call instead of hundreds.

No single app does all of it the way Cryptowatch did. In practice the replacement is a charting site plus your exchange's own app.

Where CryptoWatchTools fits

It is not a charting terminal and it does not place trades. It is a set of free tools that sit beside your charts:

The scanners need a free account. Everything else works without one.

Questions

Is Cryptowatch coming back?

Kraken has not said so. What it built instead is Kraken Desktop, a downloadable trading app launched in October 2024 that takes its ideas from Cryptowatch, alongside the Terminal layout in Kraken Pro.

Is CryptoWatchTools the same as Cryptowatch?

No. The names are close, but CryptoWatchTools is an independent site with no connection to Kraken or to Cryptowatch. It covers different ground: scanners, a watchlist exporter, calculators and a trading manual, not charts or order entry.

Does the Cryptowatch API still work?

Kraken listed the Cryptowatch API in the July 2023 sunset. For market data, use the exchanges' own public APIs, which are free for prices and tickers. Most have one endpoint that returns every market at once, which saves a request per coin.

How do I get my old Cryptowatch watchlist into TradingView?

Rebuild it with the CryptoWatchTools watchlist exporter: pick the exchange and spot or perpetuals, download the list, and import it from the watchlist menu in TradingView. Then delete the pairs you do not follow.
